It was the culmination of years of research into the art of practising relaxation
A London woman has been named the best relaxer in the country after an event held in the capital. The Extreme Relaxing UK Championships, Europe’s first competitive sporting event dedicated to relaxing, was pioneered by sport psychologist, and Senior Lecturer in Sport & Exercise Psychology at Loughborough University, Dr Jamie Barker.
Nicola said: "I felt like I had some good experience in relaxation, because I do a lot of deep-breathing techniques at home and that really helped in a competition like this. I still can't believe I won the trophy. Nicola is the first to have her name etched onto the coveted Extreme Relaxing Championships trophy, and also claimed the winning prize - a Snug sofa worth £3k. She added: "It was a great event and just down the road from where I live. I'm really happy with my performance and winning the trophy!”.
"It was really interesting trying to relax and bring my heart rate down surrounded by other people. However, I do lots of yoga so I am used to being surrounded by other people when I practice relaxing. Just like yoga, it felt like quite a supportive environment today even though it was a competitive event.
