Attacker then led police on 70mph chase through the streets in stolen car

Paul Whalley was sent back to prison this week after a shocking incident in which he smiled and joked with an elderly widow on a bus moments before he violently yanked a gold chain from around her neck. He had held up a convenience store at knifepoint only moments beforehand.

The pensioner also suffers from nightmares in which she is grabbed around her neck from behind, causing her to wake up in the middle of the night and struggle to get back to sleep. Her statement concluded: "My whole life has changed for the worse."

"Mr McDowell is made of stern stuff, and he refused and pushed you away. You stole two bottles of vodka and left the shop.
