Research from healthcare company Preventx has shown around 70,000 people over the age of 18 in England have undiagnosed hepatitis C. Estimates show that thousands of people in the country may have unknowingly acquired this illness while abroad this summer.
The 55-year-old contracted the condition in 1996 after having an accident and needing emergency medical treatment while on holiday in Sri Lanka. It wasn’t until he had an accident in the gym in 2023, and needed to visit a UK hospital, that he was tested and diagnosed for hepatitis C.
