It comes after a teenager was 'stabbed in the back' and left seriously injured
Stop and search powers have been introduced across a large part of Manchester in an effort to try and prevent 'serious violence'. The powers last for 24 hours, from 9.30pm on Saturday until 9.30pm on Sunday .
It comes as a teenager was 'stabbed in the back' and left seriously injured following a fight during an event at the Love Factory, near the Green Quarter, on Saturday evening.Greater Manchester Police said the Section 60 was implemented to 'assist officers in preventing serious violence following a section 18 assault' at the premises.
Superintendent Chris Foster of GMP said: “We understand the use of a Section 60 can cause concern to residents; however, we use these powers only when proportionate and necessary. "Our main priority is to keep the public safe and we have deployed extra officers around the local area to help provide reassurance in your communities.
