Three of the stores affected are in Nottinghamshire
A new agreement has been reached with Poundland owner Pepco Group and high street retailer Wilko affecting three Nottinghamshire stores. This will see the group acquire up to 71 sites, which will be opened as Poundland stores, after the administration trading period concludes at those sites.
Edward Williams, joint administrator, said: “Alongside the previously announced agreement with B&M, we’re confident this sale will create a platform for future employment opportunities for people, including current Wilko team members at up to 122 locations. We will continue to engage with other retailers around any interest in other Wilko sites and are confident of completing a sale of the brand and intellectual property within the coming days.
The 71 stores included in the agreement with Pepco and 51 stores included in the agreement with B&M currently employ more than 3,200 Wilko team members in total. There are three Nottinghamshire stores that are part of the agreement, Beeston, Kimberley, and Worksop. Alfreton, Ripley, Melton Mowbray and Matlock stores are also on the list.
Andy Bond, executive chairman of Pepco Group, said: “The agreement to assign a number of Wilko store leases to Pepco Group will help to bring Poundland’s value and wide offer to even more customers in the UK. It will be pleasing to offer employment to a number of Wilko’s colleagues - who will benefit from being part of a successful and fast-growing pan-European variety discount group.
