Work is scheduled to begin on September 4 and run for about four weeks
Major tree felling will shortly get underway at Ladywell in Livingston to remove thick stands of mostly conifer trees posing a fire risk to the community. During this time, paths will be temporarily closed for the safety of the public and operators. The public are asked to follow all safety signage on site and ensure dogs are kept on a lead and away from the work area.
Site manager Hannah Patterson said: “There is wide agreement that it is in the best interests of the community and the woods for the thick conifers to be removed. They are too tempting a hiding place for a minority of people with bad intentions. “Dreadful wildfires we have seen in the news from around the world may seem quite remote from Livingston, but it could happen here. If a major fire takes hold after a period of dry weather, there could be houses burning and not just trees. We are taking these steps to remove that risk.”
As a side benefit of the forestry crews working on the site – pupils at Inveralmond High School will have a careers presentation on jobs available in the sector.
