Luke Williams has been speaking ahead of the clash with Forest Green

Luke Williams provided a level-headed response to questions about the start Notts County have made to the season, as they look to preserve their 100% home record against Forest Green Rovers on Saturday. The Magpies have won five of their opening eight League Two games after promotion from the National League to take the second spot in the table.

It seems as though Williams’ side has taken to the league with relative ease, with one hiccup on the opening day aside, but the County manager said that it has been a “challenge” adapting his methods to a new league with the team learning as they go. “We’re having to prepare differently so that we are aware of the different styles of play,” said Williams.

“We’re still so early [in the season that the start] means nothing at all at the moment so I don’t think I’m surprised or overly happy with the start. There is a tinge of disappointment with the start we made and it is too early to judge yet. Notts were imperious at home last term on their way to promotion and have continued that form into this campaign, with the club suffering just one league defeat at home since Williams took the reins last year. There is a genuine belief in the team now that has contributed massively to the team’s home performances, with the fans turning up in their thousands to support them at Meadow Lane and Williams can see that they are buying into what he and his team want to do.
