Mateo Kovacic has adapted to life at Manchester City relatively quickly and almost without any hiccups.
Even for a midfielder with vast Champions League and international experience, bedding into a new side is not a given and the ease with which one can adapt becomes even harder when that new team is City. Against Fulham on Saturday, Kovacic was arguably City's best player in a game that saw Erling Haaland score yet another hat-trick. The Norwegian was at his clinical best but exploded in moments, whereas his new teammate ticked along and it is astounding to see how easily he has picked things up. Having been allowed to roam free at Villa Park, he struggled with the regimented approach to wide play and demand to keep possession that Guardiola preached. The 27-year-old came into his own last season but made no secret of his struggles.
