Manchester City won the treble last season - but it didn't take long for them to switch focus to defending those titles.

The partying had not long died down after Manchester City won the treble before Phil Foden and Jack Grealish had a heart-to-heart.

Foden and Grealish settled on the solution. And Kyle Walker's revealing chat with reporters after the Fulham wins show they are not the only ones in the City dressing room wrestling with how to stay motivated after completing the set of trophies they have spent so long fighting for."We had a little discussion and the only way is to just do it again or do the quadruple," Foden said. "That's the aim now. We have to try and do it again.

Guardiola cited the 2019/20 campaign - where City finished a distant second behind Liverpool - as evidence of what happens when complacency sets in. After coming back to beat Spurs from 2-0 down, he attacked everyone at the club, fans included, for not demanding enough of each other. That 'happy flowers' rant will be a case study for years to come when discussing how Guardiola kept City at the top for so long.

It's not only Foden and Grealish who have thought about the issue. Kyle Walker - the most senior captain left at City after Ilkay Gundogan's exit and Kevin De Bruyne's injury - called a team meeting to challenge his teammates to make their Premier League title challenge look different to recent years.

"Can you get better the Treble-winning side? It’s hard. Do I think that the recruitment and the players they have brought in are just as good? I very much think so." "I'll do my best, it's motivation, about keeping the head clear and even more eyes will be on me and the team after winning the Champions League. We have to be more prepared, sharper. It's motivation and I'm ready to do my best to have a new great season."
