The traveller had her baggage and passport confiscated during her expensive ordeal
A woman has been fined £955 at an airport for carrying a rose given to her by the airline she was travelling with. Travel influencer Lays Laraya was going from Qatar to Perth, Australia, when she was given the hefty charge as a result of not declaring a flower.
The influencer told Insider, that she has nothing to hide and was fined for violating Australia's Biosecurity Act after a screening by airport officials before immigration. She originally assumed she was being quizzed by authorities because of her Barbie-inspired airport outfit. According to Australia's Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, bringing in flowers from abroad poses a biosecurity risk as they can carry mites, aphids and diseases which have the potential to devastate the nation's wildlife and agriculture. The rose was eventually returned to the blogger after it had been inspected and the stem had been cut off.
