Nuno left Wolves 17 months ago but the club are seriously exploring the possibility of bringing him back and have opened discussions with his representatives.
It’s believed the former Wolves boss has told them he’d like to return and has his heart set on an emotional reunion with the club where he enjoyed so much success, guiding them from the Championship to successive seventh-placed Premier League finishes and aWolves sacked Nuno after the team dropped to 13th in 2020-21 but relations between him and chairman Jeff Shi remain cordial.
The 48-year-old is currently in Saudi Arabia managing Al-Ittihad, the club he joined in the summer following a hiatus after his short-lived stint at. He signed a two-year contract with Al-Ittihad, where he has been joined by three former Wolves staff members; first-team coach Ian Cathro, fitness specialist Antonio Dias and goalkeeping coach Rui Barbosa.
Then it’ll be up to Fosun and Wolves chairman Jeff Shi as whether to rehire their former head coach or look elsewhere. Shi is currently canvassing available candidates and interviewed ex-Wolves coach Rob Edwards this week, after Julen Lopetegui turned them down for family reasons.
