creator Christopher Storer through her screenwriting work. “I had recently moved out to LA [after graduating from NYU], and Chris is like, we’re gonna work together someday,” she recalls now. “I just thought, no way – he only works with geniuses.” Three years later, the pilot forlanded in her inbox. “I just remember being blown away by the script,” she says, “and I felt really moved by Sydney. I see a lot of myself in her as a character, but at the same time, we’re really different.
“I’m definitely prone to anxiety, and before I got the part, there was this period where I found being in the kitchen therapeutic. I would set myself these challenges, like, I’m only making pasta by hand now, and then invite my friends over. Because I’m superstitious, I never told anyone that I got the role of Sydney until after the fact, but I kept making people come over to my house to eat whatever I had made while ‘studying’.
