The WASPI campaign recently announced that over 250,000 women affected by State Pension age changes have died since their fight for justice began in 2015.

As many women continue their fight against State Pension inequality, nine Women Against State Pension Inequality women have released a song about their campaign.

The WASPI campaign was formed to help millions of women get ‘fair and fast compensation’ after some of the worst affected were only given a few months’ notice of a six-year delay to their eligibility for the State Pension. State Pension age changes legislated for in 1995 were not communicated to the women affected, with 2 in 5 saying they had already retired or reduced their hours by the time they found out they would not receive a pension at 60.

Others had their plans to retire ruined with less than twelve months’ notice. The Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman has been investigating the now-proven “maladministration” by the Department for Work and Pensions for nearly five years, but has yet to make a ruling on the compensation owed to women affected.

Angela Madden, Chair of the Women Against State Pension Inequality campaign and also local group coordinator for North Derbyshire WASPI, who features in the song said: “This song is not just a ‘bit of fun’. It is – sadly – deadly serious, since 250,000 women have already lost their lives while government – and the Ombudsman – continues to prevaricate.
