Next month will see Perth's workforce cut and it will lose a water pump as part of £11 million of savings across the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service

A Perth-based Fire Brigades Union chief has warned stations could close and more jobs could be lost unless forthcoming cuts are reversed.

From September the current combined appliance - operated by a minimum crew of four - will operate solely as a dedicated height vehicle and be crewed by two.Colin said: "The workforce in Perth should be 70 but has been reduced to 65 over recent years. These cuts will further reduce the Perth crew to 61."

Earlier this month Perth and Kinross councillors met privately with SFRS chiefs in the council chambers. Members of the Strategic Leadership Team - including Assistant Chief Officer with responsibility for Service Delivery David Farries, the Head of Service Delivery for the North of Scotland Stephen Wood, Area Commander Andy Girrity and Group Commander Serge Kabamba - attended.

He said: "We in Perth and Kinross have seen recent tragic incidents: the New County Hotel and Shore Road since the start of 2023 and this month in Methven. Our fire service is of paramount importance in saving lives and the lack of funding it receives is making the job harder for firefighters."He said: "Research commissioned by the FBU has found that firefighters are more likely to die from heart attacks, strokes, cancer and other diseases.
