Cabinet member said Sandway Homes was 'fulfilling' its aims in challenging circumstances
Sefton Council’s housing company is facing more “uncertainty and risk” amid delays in building houses, according to a council report.
The scheme at Buckley Hill Lane, which involves building 63 units of which the council intends to buy 18 has been delayed by over 12 months and is due for completion by the end of 2025. It states: “The severity of this economic situation and the potential impact on the company’s operations and planning cannot be under-estimated, with the impact already being felt with a slowdown in reservations taking place.”
The company has borrowed over £5m from the council so far from a loan facility previously agreed and extended to £8.3m in December. According to the report approval is now being sought for the company to be allowed to draw down the remaining funds. Overall, the update notes that despite the uncertainty and delays the company is achieving its original aims to “deliver housing numbers, housing quality and a return to the Council”.
