An offer of £90 million for the company has reportedly been made
A Nottinghamshire Wilko store has issued a heartbreaking plea to its customers as uncertainty about the future of the company continues. Latest reports from the GMB trade union suggested there was a deadline of 5pm on Wednesday for further details about Wilko to be given to the lead bidder, with private equity firm M2 Capital having reportedly made a £90 million offer.
Administrators PwC have repeatedly said it would not be appropriate for them to comment on speculation. But a GMB memo to staff says if the 5pm deadline was not met, redundancies were likely to resume on Thursday for distribution and support centre staff. The union said earlier in the week that all redundancies had been suspended while bids for Wilko were considered. The Worksop-headquartered firm is estimated to employ 2,000 people across the Bassetlaw district alone.
A sign has now been seen in Wilko's Sutton in Ashfield store, asking customers to stop posing questions to staff about potential store closures. The notice was in the store as of Wednesday and read: "In light of the most recent headlines concerning the company, we kindly ask customers to refrain from asking questions regarding store closures and timeframes during this difficult period. Thank you for your cooperation and thank you for shopping at Wilko.
