They may be cheap and effective, but even though drones have given Kyiv an edge recently and struck symbolic blows at Vladimir Putin, they are no more than an irritant - and are unlikely to deliver Ukraine's ultimate military goal, Sean Bell writes.

Balloons hoisted spotters high above the frontlines to help mortar crews zero in on their prey, to devastating effect. Despite Russian efforts to thwart Ukrainian drones, Ukrainian operators use their"downtime" to disassemble their drones, add extra capability, and update the software.
