“I hope the whole financial sector learns from this incident. Its role is to serve customers well and fairly – not to tell them how or what to think” NatWest’s treatment of Farage has undermined trust in banking, the City minister warned bank chiefs
after admitting she leaked inaccurate information about Mr Farage’s finances to the BBC.
Coutts requires its customers to borrow or invest at least £1m or save at least £3m, according to an eligibility questionnaire on its website. She denied revealing any “personal financial information”, but instead claimed that she inadvertently left the BBC’s business editor with the impression that Mr Farage did not meet Coutts’s wealth threshold.
