There have been reports of an increase in bedbug infestations.
East Midlands Railway says it has increased its 'vigilance' for bedbugs amid reports of an increase in infestations. Although stressing that it had not had any cases of bedbugs, the train operator says it will take steps including nightly inspections of seats as a precaution.
They are believed to have spread from Paris, where schools, hospitals and cinemas have reportedly been plagued by the insects. Confirming its arrangements, an East Midlands Railway spokesperson said: "EMR has the expertise and experience of deep cleaning gained during the pandemic. "We have not had any cases of bed bugs but as a pre-emptive step we have increased our vigilance for bugs, including nightly inspections of seats and other soft furnishings. Hoovering of seats has also been increased during these nightly cleans."
