The airport was among the worst performing in the survey for security queues, with an average wait time of 28 minutes reported at Terminal 3, 26 minutes at Terminal 2 and 25 minutes at Terminal 1. Unite general secretary Sharon Graham slammed airline operators for ‘slashing jobs’ during the pandemic to ‘boost corporate profits’ and said it was ‘a crisis of their making’.
There is no doubt that things have improved dramatically since then. There are 3,000 new recruits and a 100-strong ‘resilience team’, Terminal 2 is set to undergo a £1.3bn transformation and a new CEO is taking over. Man jailed over airport 'meet and greet' parking fraud A family who ran a ‘meet and greet’ parking business near Manchester Airport have been hauled before the courts after hundreds of holidaymakers had their cars damaged or stolen.
Prosecutor Adam Pearson said the firm operated under three different names over several years out of the family home in Hale Barns, but also used local fields and residential streets. The companies advertised on their own website and on price comparison sites that cars would be left in a secure car park, covered with CCTV, flood lights and 24 hour staffing. “Those advertisements did not accord with the reality of the situation,” Mr Pearson said.
Data journalist David Dubas-Fisher has found that 68,561 flights in and out of UK airports were delayed by at least 15 minutes that month, according to UK Civil Aviation Authority data. The news follows baby killer Lucy Letby’s refusal to appear in court for her sentencing earlier this month. The Government has promised legislation to force serious offenders to attend their sentencing, with Prime Minister Rishi Sunak calling it ‘unacceptable’ that some criminals have refused to face their victims.
He has since said the board were 'misled' about Letby, claiming they were 'told explicitly that there was no criminal activity pointing to any one individual' after reviews of the baby deaths were carried out in 2016. Doctors claim they had been raising concerns about Letby's conduct and presence at each of the collapses and deaths for years.
The addition of two floors will allow another 16 apartments to be built, the developers say, taking the total to 229 apartments. They will also come with a host of other minor changes for hotel operators who are set to take over some of the building. More here.
