Police received a report that a man on the plane said he was in possession of an explosive device
A Hucknall man who was on the East Midlands Airport flight surrounded by police amid a security threat has described the 'alarming' and 'intimidating' atmosphere onboard. Passengers travelling to the Turkish city of Antalya were left waiting on their Jet2 plane at East Midlands Airport for more than three hours after what was initially described as an issue with luggage.
"They were giving us updates every 15 minutes and they eventually told us there was a security issue, but that it was just routine and nothing serious. We were then surrounded by police cars and SWOT teams, all there with machine guns, and at that point we knew it wasn't good. The passenger eventually said that police came onboard with guns and sniffer dogs which he says was "alarming" to passengers. Describing the moments before the man later arrested left the plane, the passenger said: "There was a 45 minute window when we actually knew that it was somebody on the plane but nobody knew who it was.
