Leah Rodgers had just returned from a holiday with her friends when she became seriously unwell and had to be rushed to hospital. Her family are looking to raise awareness of the condition that claimed her life.
A teenage girl tragically died after coming down with suspected tonsillitis after returning home from a holiday in Majorca.
"Due to the pain near her liver, she was still taken for blood tests which showed she had liver failure. From there it escalated. They said she needed to go to a specialist centre in Birmingham." "Doctors said they were getting the haematologists involved because they now thought it was something else going on. They said it could be one of two things - and she was eventually diagnosed with HLH. It hit me like a sledgehammer. It was awful.
"We couldn't do it anymore. It was prolonging things for her and prolonging things for us. We made the heartbreaking decision to start decreasing the medication. They then stopped the life support and within minutes she was gone. We thought we might have had days but it turned into hours."
