Leah Rodgers, 17, had jetted off to Palma Nova with her friends for her first holiday without her parents before tragedy struck.
A teenager tragically died after returning home from a holiday in Majorca with suspected tonsillitis.
She was eventually diagnosed with hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis, known as HLH, which is a life-threatening immune condition which causes the body to react inappropriately to a ‘trigger’, usually an infection - and she died just days later. Leah was taken into intensive care in Princess of Wales Hospital in Bridgend and, with her condition deteriorating, the family were told they would need to put her on life support before being transferred to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham.
"Basically there was no more treatment they could do for her. I organised for somebody to bring my son and daughter up. We didn't know how long she had but we knew it wasn't very long. Leah died on June 7, just three months before her 18th birthday. Her heartbroken family are now hoping to raise awareness of the extremely rare HLH syndrome in the hope that experts can eventually find a cure.
