Severe weather warnings are in place in parts of England, Scotland and Northern Ireland as Storm Babet sweeps the UK. There is a risk to life in places - and in Brechin in Scotland, residents have been told to evacuate.
Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has said those whose homes and businesses were damaged in floods during Storm Babet will benefit from a financial package. He didn't say how much the package would be, but there could be potential for it to be more than the €10m initially allocated by the government.
'What I've asked the council to do, is to really carry out an assessment of the damage to the public infrastructure, in particular the roads and bridges, send it in to us and then we'll have to make a special allocation to cover that,' Mr Varadkar said after a visit to some affected in Midleton, Co Cork.Mr Varadkar said the flood damage is 'particularly bad' this time.
