It comes after a teenager was 'stabbed in the back' and left seriously injured
Stop and search powers have been introduced across a large part of Manchester in an effort to try and prevent 'serious violence' and 'keep the public safe'. The powers last from 9.30pm on Saturday until 9.30am on Monday .
It comes as a teenager was 'stabbed in the back' and left seriously injured following a fight during an event at the Love Factory, near the Green Quarter, on Saturday evening.Greater Manchester Police said the Section 60 was implemented to 'assist officers in preventing serious violence following a section 18 assault' at the premises and also to 'ensure the public remain safe from any potential violence'.
Superintendent Richard Warden said: “After an extensive review of our intelligence and following our positive interventions in the local community, we have decided to extend these stop search powers until tomorrow morning to ensure the public remain safe from any potential violence. "By enforcing the Section 60 in this area, we will work with the local communities to minimise any violent behaviour in your area and prevent any further violence going forward. Our main priority is to keep the public safe and we have deployed extra officers around the local area to help provide reassurance.
