It occurs when the Moon’s orbit lines up closely with the Sun.

Just six days before Halloween, Scots will have a chance to see a rare event that makes it look as if a chunk is missing from the Sun.

The moon's dark disc will cross in front of the bright Sun, and according to The Week Junior Science+Nature, will appear as if 'someone has taken a bite out of the Sun'. The partial eclipse will last for about two hours – starting at about 10.10am, it will reach its maximum by 11.00am and will be all done by 11.50am.

He also suggests using a pinhole camera, which you can make by yourself. To do so, you will have to cut a 1-2mm circular hole in a piece of card.
