Residents are worried just how big it will get
A huge sinkhole has appeared near Blackpool Airport, with residents worried about how far it spreads underneath the surface
The hole has been cordoned off by the Lancashire County Council Highways team to make the road safe whilst work is carried out to repair the site. It is understood the hole has been caused by United Utilities water supply infrastructure. Local residents told LancsLive that holes like this are not uncommon on this stretch of Westgate Road, with them filled in by the county council on previous occasions.
A spokesman for Lancashire County Council said: "We received a call from the police at the weekend about a large pothole that had appeared on Westgate Road. Our highways team immediately attended the site to make it safe with barriers.
