Duncan was waiting to do a live link with This Morning when he was surprised by Alice Beer who handed him a card and asked him to read it out.

Scottish paramedic Duncan Tripp has won this year's This Morning Emergency Services Award. The 60-year-old had been announced as a finalist for the Daily Mirror Pride of Britain Award after he risking his life to help save climbers stuck on Ben Nevis during treacherous conditions.

View gallery Alice told the winch paramedic that although the rescue was a team effort, his own actions were 'absolutely extraordinary'. In March 2022, brave Duncan volunteered to start a dangerous ascent up the UK's highest peak when his team responded to a call. Further up the mountain, two other groups were also stuck. A Mountain Rescue team reached three people at Red Burn Gulley, a craggy, inaccessible area of the mountain. The man who had suffered the initial fall sadly could not be saved and another person suffered a broken leg.

At one point, Duncan slid down an ice slope during the dangerous descent but he managed to save himself by digging his ace into the frozen ground. After six hours on the mountain he made it back to the helicopter. It is believed 24 people were helped from the mountain that day.
