The Met Office has issued a yellow warning as there is a risk of storms across much of the country
Saturday is the hottest day of the year, according to the Met Office. The weather forecasting service said that Saturday, September 9 was "provisionally" the hottest day of the year after temperatures reached 32.7°C.
Taking to Twitter, the Met Office said: "Heathrow has reached 32.7°C. Provisionally making today the warmest day of the year.Thursday had previously been named the hottest day of the year after the mercury rose to 32.6°C in Wisley, Surrey. But initial readings show that that temperature had been exceeded today.
Met Office chief meteorologist Paul Gundersen said: “Although much of the UK will see high temperatures and sunny skies continue on Saturday, in what has a possibility of being the hottest day of the year so far, there’s also the potential for some thunderstorms, which has resulted in a yellow warning being issued for much of central England and parts of east Wales.
