Ribble Valley Borough Council councillors have been recommended to renew all the orders for another three years

A review of laws and fines for dog dirt and dog control issues in Ribble Valley parks, playgrounds, sports fields and a cemetery has sparked a range of opinions about different breeds, owners and protected locations.

The orders require people with dogs to pick up dog dirt and have bags or other means to do so. They also limit the number of dogs allowed with one person, ban dogs from enclosed children’s playgrounds and state where dogs must be kept on leads. The council held an on-line public survey this summer. Residents, interest groups, parish and borough councillors were asked for their views. Almost 240 people replied, of which 37 per cent were current dog owners.

Anyone in charge of a dog must have ‘appropriate means’ to pick up dog dirt. Ninety-six per cent of survey participants wanted this to remain. Any person in charge of a dog must put the dog on a lead when told so by an officer. This applies to any land where the public have access and where a dog is considered to be out of control.four. This applies to any land to which the public have access, except with the consent of the person in control of the land. Seventy-eight per cent of people want this order to remain .
