Personnel based in Scotland have led an air policing mission in Estonia, where they intercepted 50 Russian aircrafts in the Baltic across four months.

This is the moment jets from RAF Lossiemouth were scrambled to intercept Russian aircraft on the NATO border amid heightened tension due to the war with Ukraine.

The 140 Expeditionary Air Wing were deployed to Ämari Air Base at the start of March along with squadrons, IX and 1, from Lossiemouth. He said: “Hundreds of RAF pilots and personnel have spent months away from their families, working round-the-clock alongside our allies to keep Europe’s skies safe. Air & Space Commander, Air Marshal Harv Smyth, added: “The RAF is committed to its role within NATO of collective defence, to ensure the strength and unity of the alliance and to deter and defend against threats to NATO security.
