The assault happened on Wedneday

Detectives are appealing for information following the serious assault at Harbour Road, Kilkeel, in the early hours of July 12. The man, who is aged in his 30s, remains in hospital at this time with a head injury, police confirmed this morning.Read more: Woman arrested after reported assault in Belfast

A PSNI statement read: "An investigation is ongoing and detectives would ask to anyone with any information, or who saw anything at the time of the assault to contact them in Ardmore on 101, quoting reference number 352 14/07/23. "Alternatively, you can submit a report online using the non-emergency reporting form via http://www.psni.police.uk/makeareport/. You can also contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or online at http://crimestoppers-uk.org."
