Police are investigating a death at a 3-family home under renovation in Boston's Roslindale neighborhood.
Boston police say they received a call at 7:30 a.m. Monday for a well-being check at 1026 Canterbury St. The well-being check resulted in a death investigation after a male worker in his 30s was found dead. Police cleared the scene around 10 a.m., and officials put a stop order sign up on the door.“Angers me,” said Larry Bastianelli, a contractor who lives across the street. “It shouldn’t happen.”
Bastianelli says he’s been complaining about some of the work on the Canterbury Street home for weeks, concerned in particular about safety. “No one should die, not in construction,” he said. “Gives construction a bad name and it just shouldn’t happen.” What exactly did happen remains unclear but we do know work at the construction site was prohibited on weekends. Inspectors from the city of Boston say the worker was at the site Sunday afternoon, however, which is why a neighbor took a photo of a work truck for the company ABT when it pulled up around 2 p.m. Sunday.
