Francisco Suarez-Hughes was sentenced at the High Court in Dundee today.
A plumber who knocked down and killed a mother as he raced home from work at nearly twice the speed limit has been jailed for three years and four months.
"Immediately prior to your vehicle colliding with Mrs Marshall you drove at grossly excessive speed - almost twice the 30 miles per hour limit applicable to that road," he told the High Court in Dundee. Crash investigators concluded that the 25-year-old [21-5-98] was likely to have been driving at around 57 miles per hour at the time of the fatal impact at 6.20 pm.
Suarez-Hughes, of Cambuslang, Lanarkshire, got out and dialled 999 stating: "I have just knocked someone down and I think I have killed her." Counsel for Suarez-Hughes, Graham Robertson, told the High Court in Dundee: "He fully accepts his guilt. He wanted to apologise to the victim's family and will always regret what happened.
