William Dickinson was later arrested after reports a man had been allegedly been assaulted with a knife

A pensioner left a stranger with a broken cheekbone after hitting him in the face with his walking stick after a night out.

Mr Hughes was subsequently taken to A&E where it was discovered he had suffered a fracture to his left cheekbone. He later had to undergo surgery in order to fix the damage, having also sustained a cut to his eyebrow. He began "shouting" and became "aggressive" when held, spitting on the floor of a van used to transport him into custody. Once there, the detainee attempted to headbutt one PC as he was removing his jewellery but only made contact with his arm.
