King Charles admired his second cousin William so much that he named his first-born son after him, but who was the 'daredevil prince?'

The ‘other Prince William’ may be unfamiliar to those born after his death on August 28, 1972. But for royal watchers who know a thing or two about the family tree, Prince William Henry Andrew Frederick was well known for his love of action packed activities and dare devil antics such as flying and ballooning.

Born in Barnet, Hertfordshire on December 18, 1941, he was the son of Prince Henry, Duke of Gloucester and Alice, Duchess of Gloucester. Popular and adventurous, the prince had lots of hobbies that revealed a passion for the riskier side of life and he had several dangerous hobbies, such as flying, ballooning and hiking in the Sahara Desert.

But in 1970, William’s priority became home when his father the Duke of Gloucester started having strokes. William came back to the UK to run his dad’s estate and take on duties as a full-time working royal.
