Villagers want a safe route to walk the mile between Ecclesmachan and Threemiletown
Plans to link two West Lothian villages a mile apart with a footpath are likely to remain on the drawing board - because funding can only be found if the path extends to a railway link four miles away.
West Lothian council has plans in place but cannot afford to build the footpath, and so turned to SUStrans to seek funding. Extending the path to Uphall would mean encroaching on private land, stalling the council in detailed negotiations over land transfer and potential compulsory purchase orders. Operations manager Andy Johnston told the meeting that the designs were in place, using council owned verges and land to link the two villages.
