Over toxic health risks
The Food Standards Agency says the drinks can be toxic, and even having one slushy can be a risk for young kids
The Food Standards Agency says children under 4 should not have the drinks at all. That's because the high levels of glycerol sweetener can be toxic for young kids. The guidance, issued this week, comes after 2 children in Scotland were hospitalised in separate incidents after drinking slushies. The youngsters were found to have 'glycerol intoxication' from the drinks. The problem is with 1 of the ingredients in the drinks – glycerol. It is used to stop the ice in the drink from freezing solid, so that the 'slush' effect is created.
