Will the Panthers keep a third QB? Could their top receiver in the preseason be on the cutting block? Do they keep just three tight ends?
, it’s not like the Panthers are going to get much for Corral if there’s even interest in the third-rounder from Ole Miss.
Reich said a lot of factors will go into the decision whether to keep three quarterbacks. Injuries and needs at other positions could make hanging on to a third QB a luxury the Panthers can’t afford. But Reich said he’s been encouraged by Corral’s progress this summer. “Matt’s incredibly athletic. He’s got a really strong arm. He’s worked as hard as anybody in the building. He spent a lot of time in this building,” he said. “Josh McCown has done a really great job. Those two have put a lot of time in together. So happy with the progress that he’s made and he’s had a lot of snaps in the preseason, and I think he’s done a good job.”
Matt Corral completed 4-of-12 passes for 52 yards and had a 27-yard run in the Panthers’ final preseason game Friday against the Lions. Smith, a sixth-round pick from South Carolina in 2021, was part of the receiving rotation last season when he finished with 22 catches for 296 yards and two touchdowns. He was the team’s leading receiver during the preseason. But the Panthers want to see more consistency from Smith.
