500 NHS staff are joined by politicians as they begin 48-hour walk-out
Huge, loud picket lines were formed outside Wirral's Arrowe Park Hospital today as more than 500 NHS staff begin a 48 hour strike.
A total of seven health trusts across the North West have moved many low-paid CSWs staff onto the higher rate, and paid the affected staff backpay to April 2018. This is in response to campaigns by UNISON, but Unison says WUTH has refused to draw up a similar agreement, despite a months-long campaign, including a collective grievance signed by over 400 staff.
Birkenhead MP Mr Whitley, who joined the picket line at Arrowe Park today said: “The Clinical Support Workers at Arrowe Park and Clatterbridge hospitals – including many who are my constituents – have been underpaid for years now. The responsibilities they undertake have far outgrown the Band 2 pay they receive.
In a response, a spokesperson for the trust said: “Our Clinical Support Workers are a vital and valued part of our workforce. We agree that they should be paid the right banding for the work we are asking them to do.
