Some helpful tips that can transform the lunchbox routine into an enjoyable and successful experience

I'm Dr Kirsty Porter, a children's dietitian dedicated to empowering families like yours with the knowledge and strategies for raising happy, healthy eaters.

Empower your child by involving them in the process Allow them to choose from a selection of options that you have available such as fruit or vegetables, toppings for sandwiches and assemble their lunch. This will give them confidence, promote independence and increase their chances of eating the foods they helped prepare. Depending on your child’s age you can encourage them to help make them before or after dinner everyday, make this part of your routine.

Presentation Matters A visually appealing lunchbox can spark curiosity and appetite making it more likely to be eaten. You don’t have to be a Picasso or spend hours creating master pieces! Instead, you can easily create visual appealing lunches by using cookie cutters to shape sandwiches and fruits into playful designs.

Rotate and Adapt Keep the lunchbox exciting by rotating options and adapting to your child's preferences. What works one week might change, so staying flexible is key. Introducing new flavours helps keeps boredom at bay. You can switch it up with different fruit and vegetables, buy ones that are on offer if you shop in supermarkets.

By implementing these expert tips, you'll not only create stress-free school lunchboxes but also cultivate a positive relationship with food for your child. Remember, the lunchbox is an opportunity to nourish and delight, paving the way for healthier and happier school days.
