It comes after PM Rishi Sunak announced the northern leg of HS2 would be scrapped

The new rail plan set to replace scrapped HS2 is 'not worth the paper it’s written on' as it is based on out of date numbers, Labour MPs have warned.

Labour MP Chi Onwurah told transport questions in the Commons the Government’s mishandling of HS2 'was and is absolutely staggering'. Shadow transport minister Mike Kane earlier said of Network North: “This dodgy-sounding 1970s ITV TV franchise doesn’t have a single project with an approved business case and plans are valued at 2019 prices.”Mr Merriman replied: “It most certainly is. When the Prime Minister announced Network North it was quite clear that we were going to see a plethora of rail projects and indeed wider projects.

Transport Secretary Mark Harper said Mr Sunak made the “right long-term decision” to reinvest savings from HS2 into other transport projects. Ms Haigh went on to accuse the Government of having “fatally undermined confidence and delivery” in HS2, adding: “That’s why no-one has confidence in Network North.

Mr Harper replied: “I’m very surprised is not welcoming the massive improvement Network North will make across the country, including for her own constituents.
