Senior Conservatives say a reshuffle is not a 'panacea' to the party's stubbornly poor polling

If there will be more rail strikes and latest on union disputes with train companiesOnly moving the most senior ministers – the likes of Chancellor Jeremy Hunt or Home Secretary Suella Braverman – could have the kind of impact that could help the Prime Minister start turning around polls that have remained stubbornly bad despite a reset around party conference season, the senior figures suggested.

“But it’s unlikely given we’ve now got people being moved out of hotels and put on barges and other things that she would be moved at this very moment,” the peer added. “But I’m not sure there’s any real evidence that the average member of the public pays any attention to that kind of thing.” The elevation of Mr Glen, if Mr Hunt is to go, could however help quell any discontent from Tory moderates about the decision, a party insider suggested.
