NASA is exploring commercial flights from London to New York which would take around 90 minutes

NASA is currently conducting research with supersonic aircraft which could see flights from London to New York take just 90 minutes. Commercial supersonic travel has taken a back seat since Concorde, which proved too costly to operate, was extremely noisy and one of the fleet was involved in an accident, which saw all people onboard die.

In a press release explaining the research, NASA said it is investigating the "business case for supersonic passenger air travel aboard aircraft that could theoretically travel between Mach 2 and Mach 4 ." It added: "By comparison, today's larger airliners cruise at roughly 600 mph, or about 80 per cent of the speed of sound.

The space agency went on: "Flying from New York City to London up to four times faster than what's currently possible may sound like a far-off dream, but NASA is exploring whether the commercial market could support travel at such speeds."
