Kelsey Rayne, 26, was handed a suspended sentence
A young mum housed money for a man accused of allegedly attacking a fellow inmate whilst in prison. Kelsey Rayne, 26, held over £1,000 in her bank account after the man allegedly attacked another prisoner whilst serving an indeterminate sentence in HMP Manchester.
“The following day he gave her a telephone number and told her to contact it. He tells her to say he was wondering what’s happening and just wants his money.” “In another subsequent call, he warned her that the police would be investigating the alleged incident. She then tells him she cannot talk about the money in the presence of her boyfriend as he would know something was ‘dodgy’,” Mr Whelan continued.
The inmate was later arrested and remained silent in his police interview, save for stating the money had come from a sale of a watch. Rayne told officers that she had received a message from the man in which he said he was ‘doing her proud’ and assumed he had assaulted somebody. “She was desperate to get out of that relationship and desperate to provide a safe home for her and her son. She was desperate to get some money for a rental deposit,” he said.
