Concerns have been raised regarding the quality of care at the mental health unit in Holywell Hospital
Patients have been forced to sleep on chairs and mattresses on the floor due to a lack of space at a Northern Ireland mental health unit.
However the Trust has denied these claims and said it "does not have any process or policy in place that requires patients to sign off on any liability in relation to injuries that may or may not occur while admitted to hospital." "A lot of the issues raised to the staff are ignored and there are times where it seems like there are none on the ward at all.
A spokesperson for the Northern Trust said: "NHSCT Acute Mental Health services continue to experience significant demand for inpatient beds, a challenging situation that is shared across the region. "The impact of these pressures has resulted periodically in patients being admitted to hospital into spaces not ordinarily identified for this purpose, which unfortunately has meant recliner sofas being utilised in day spaces. In some circumstances when there is no other option available, a mattress has been used as a contingency bed.
