Anti-racism protesters gathered in front of the artwork after it was vandalised following the England star's penalty miss against Italy
Police have said graffiti sprayed on a mural of England starThe artwork, on a building in Withington, the Manchester suburb where Rashford grew up, was defaced after he missed a penalty against Italy in Sunday’s Euro 2020 final.
Greater Manchester Police said in a statement: ‘While the content of the vandalism is not believed to be of a racial nature, officers are keeping an open mind as to the motive behind defacing the artwork.’ The force launched an investigation after receiving a report of racially aggravated damage on the mural at 2.50am on Monday.
