M6 drivers hit with huge five-mile delays after caravan fire - live updates
this afternoon after a caravan burst into flames.
Emergency services are at the scene of the fire on the southbound carriageway. The incident happened between junction 24 for Ashton-in-Makerfield and junction 23 for Haydock. National Highways North West says two lanes are closed as firefighters battle to put out the blaze. There are five miles of congestion in the area resulting in 35 minute delays.
alert service Inrix reports that traffic was held for around 10 minutes at 12.30pm today but lane three has since reopened. No injuries have been reported.
