A road linking the M6 and M58 has been closed after a lorry smashed into a bridge and overturned this morning.
National Highways confirmed police are currently at the scene at the Orrell Interchange in Wigan. Officials say that the crash has resulted in a large diesel spillage at the scene. In a tweet at 4.40am, National Highways North-West wrote: "The link from the #M6 south to the #M58 west at the #Orrell Interchange is closed due to a bridge strike. @NWmwaypolice and our #trafficofficers are on scene. The lorry which has struck the bridge has overturned and there is also large diesel spillage on the link."
The incident was logged on road and traffic monitoring service Inrix at 4.45am. An update at 5.06am read: "M6 Southbound exit slip road to the M58 closed due to overturned lorry at J26 M58 (
