'It's the worse-off I've ever been': The poverty in the shadow of the King's Coronation
William Anders will be watching the Coronation on Saturday morning, but he'll probably have more pressing matters on his mind. "At a cost of tens of millions of pounds this pointless piece of theatre is a slap in the face for millions of people struggling with the cost of living crisis," Graham Smith, the chief executive of anti-monarchy campaign group Republic told the Big Issue. Across Greater Manchester almost 140,000 parcels were handed out. And nowhere saw a bigger increase than Wigan where there were 64% more parcels distributed year-on-year.
"I'm frightened to death of going shopping. One week something's gone up 50p, then it's gone up another 25p the week after. Fish fingers, chips and beans is not my ideal tea, but that's what we're eating a lot of at the minute."
